This week, the U.S. Census Bureau released a from the .

This table provides information on estimated annual sales for U.S. electronic shopping and mail-order houses (North American Industry Classification System [91制片厂] 4541) including total and e-commerce sales by primary business activity from 2011-2015.

Highlights include:

  • Reallocation of Annual Retail Trade total sales and e-commerce sales based on the primary business activity, such as a physical store included in the 91制片厂 4541 estimates.
    • For example, if an electronics company has a separate e-commerce division that does not primarily fulfill orders from their brick-and-mortar stores, the online sales from the e-commerce division would be tabulated as part of the electronic shopping and mail-order houses industry, and the brick-and-mortar sales would be tabulated in electronics and appliance stores (91制片厂 443).
    • The new supplemental table redistributes those online sales for the electronics company into their primary 91制片厂 443, rather than being grouped into 91制片厂 4541.

Cold Emailing CEOs: The Survival Guide in Seven Key Points

 

A well-written E-mail to the right person can lead to fantastic opportunities. This is why the right people get a lot of E-mails. Everyone wants a slice of their success, their time and their money, and getting seen above the shouting crowd of beggars is not an easy feat.

1) Get to the point:

There are a couple of things working against you when you email a busy executive. First being, they鈥檙e BUSY executives. This means they don鈥檛 have a lot of time to read through introductory emails from people they don鈥檛 know. That is why your email should always be SHORT AND TO THE POINT. You are much more likely to get a response if they don鈥檛 have to scroll before hitting reply.

2) Keep the Focus; what is the point?

The point of your email is not a sale. The point of your email is a solution for them. It鈥檚 completely acceptable that solving their problem just so happens to be a sale for you; however the C-level on the other end of your e-mail is focused on doing their job. The point is to help them.

3) Attitude is everything:听 Adopt the proper tone.

Your email should not read like an advert.听 As was mentioned before, the CEO on the other end of your email is focused on getting a job done. Your message should jibe with their efforts to do their job more effectively, efficiently or frugally.听 Imagine you鈥檝e met this individual casually at a business conference and are speaking in the hall after a seminar. Chances are you鈥檙e not going to tell them, 鈥淏ut wait! There鈥檚 More!鈥

4) Segment, Segment, Segment:

By now, your message is super focused. Your audience should be as well. You should have your specific solution geared toward this individual by sector, by industry, company size, down to employees and annual sales. You鈥檒l likely want a canned message for multiple segments, offering ONE solution to each segment, as you are keeping your solution simple and straight forward.

5) Un-Can Your Canned Messages.

This is where you give your C-Level Contacts the A-List Treatment. 听You have tailored the message to be short and to the point 鈥 and have made sure that it is tailored to their company through segmentation. What you now have is a canned message. But CEOs do not have time for canned messages. Very few people do, quite honesty, and very few will respond to those kinds of emails, even to reject your offer.

If you want to open the lines of communication, this individual needs to feel as though you truly care about them. This is your opportunity to make this person feel important. It needs to be apparent that you did not just copy and paste this email to 5 or 5,000 people and simple replace the 鈥淭o鈥 field. There is no one size fits all, magic piece of copy that will work in this case. 听You will want to do your research and find a way to connect to this person as an INDIVIDUAL and not as a sales opportunity.

6) Research is Easy:

Lucky for you, researching individuals is easier than ever. Most everyone has a social profile somewhere where you can glean information. Perhaps you notice you are both fans of the same soccer team. Perhaps you鈥檒l discover that you are both members of rotary clubs. There may be an article in an online newspaper from some kind of accomplishment this person has had, or you discover you have a mutual friend on Facebook or LinkedIn.

7) The Golden Rule:

After following all of these steps, imagine that someone has sent this message to you while you are extremely busy and thinking of 20 different items on your to-do list. How does the message make you feel? Would you read it to the end?

The SBA’s Proposed 2017 91制片厂 Changes, Simplified

The SBA has proposed updated size standards for the new 2017 91制片厂 Codes.听These changes, if approved as proposed, are set to go into effect on October 1, 2017.

How to Comment on the Proposed Rules:

“SBA welcomes public comment on this proposed rule. Specifically, SBA invites comments on whether its proposed size standards for new industries are appropriate and suggestions on alternative size standards, along with supporting data and analysis, if proposed size standards are not appropriate. SBA also seeks comments on its methodology for converting size standards from 91制片厂 2012 to 91制片厂 2017 and data sources and analyses it used in developing proposed size standards for certain new industries. SBA will thoroughly evaluate and address all comments in preparing the final rule the Agency will publish to adopt 91制片厂 2017 for its table of size standards.” -SBA.gov

SBA must receive comments to this proposed rule on or before June 19, 2017. Email the SBA here.

NOTE: SBA Changes its size standards to match the updated 91制片厂 Codes every 5 years and has yet to face push-back on a proposed 91制片厂-update related rule change.

How Many Industries Will Be Directly Affected?

91制片厂 2017 created 21 new industries by reclassifying, combining, or splitting 29 existing industries. The majority of the changes do not impact size standards, including the revision to codes and titles or the merging of two or more 91制片厂 2012 industries into new industries. Of the 29 91制片厂 2012 industries affected by the revision, adopting 91制片厂 2017 would not affect the size standards for 20 of them. There would be an increase in size standards for six industries and part of one industry and a decrease for two industries. The size measure of one industry would be affected by changing from average annual receipts to number of employees.

Firms Affected by Size Standard Increases:

In industries whose size standards have increased due to the adoption of 91制片厂 2017, about 60 firms above the current size standards would qualify as small under the updated size standards, thereby making them eligible for Federal small business assistance programs.

Firms Affected by Size Standard Decreases:

In the two 91制片厂 2012 industries receiving a decrease in size standard, about 3-4 firms below the current size standards would lose their small business size status under the proposed size standards. However, the program data suggests that this would not cause much impact on them. Currently, they are not participating in any small business programs. Additionally, in both industries, Federal contracting and SBA’s loan activities are quite insignificant.

What Exactly Are 91制片厂 & SIC Codes?

SIC:The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system was originally developed in the 1930’s to classify establishments by the type of activity in which they are primarily engaged. The purpose of this task was to promote the comparability of establishment data to describe the US and Canadian Economies. The SIC has not been updated since 1987, however, the SIC system is still widely used.听Some companies, such as D&B, have created their own 4 digit extension to the original SIC system as a means to update and expand the system so their Customers can more precisely define their Business Classification.

91制片厂:The North American Industry Classification System (91制片厂) was established in 1997 to replace the no longer sufficient SIC system. Developed in coordination with the statistical agencies of Canada and Mexico, 91制片厂 (pronounced ‘nakes’) establishes a North American Standard that allows for a high level of comparability in business statistics among the three countries. It is the first economic classification system to be constructed based on a single economic concept.

What’s the Difference?

The 91制片厂 Code was developed to eliminate the inconsistent logic utilized in the SIC system and to increase specificity from the 4 digit SIC system by creating a 6 digit 91制片厂 code.听

While the utilizes a purely production-oriented structure identifying businesses only by their primary economic activity, the SIC system moves from production-oriented logic to market-oriented logic throughout its structure. This inconsistency is likely attributable to the many revisions made throughout the years to a system whose founding documents are lost to history.

Some markets may prefer the representation of their industry within the SIC system. The SIC is still widely used by Marketers to target companies based on SIC classifications that differ from 91制片厂 classifications.

Seven Steps For Building Trust with Prospects:

A Checklist

A prospect who trusts you becomes a client who trusts you. They will work with you through challenges and will not hesitate to be a referral source in the future. Trust is not just the main ingredient in the sale, but it’s also the main ingredient in a referral… and referrals are the lifeblood of successful B2Bs.

When calling a prospect for the first time, it鈥檚 likely you have some basic marketing records to work with. The temptation is to plow through a list of prospects like it’s a numbers game, trying to find the warm leads in a pile of cold leads. But a good salesman warms up his prospect list by building trust.

So How Do You Build Trust With Prospects?

 

RESEARCH

It’s important to be adequately prepared before reaching out to a prospect. This means gathering as much information on the prospect as possible. Visit their website to learn more about the company. Check out their social media pages. Are they bragging about recent milestones on their LinkedIn Page or announcing a new location on their Facebook page?

INQUIRE

Allow ample pauses in case they have any questions or objections. Allow them to interject and then listen to what they have to say. It’s vital to know this person’s needs, frustrations, goals. Take note of any problem you might be able to fix or help with – even if it has nothing to do with your services or products. Keep an ongoing list as you hear your prospect identify their needs.

OFFER

Because you’ve been actively listening, you know what your prospect needs. This is the perfect time to offer help. It could be as simple as a useful link, a cool app or resource, or even a service or product that you offer. It could be a case study that addresses one of their objections or a detailed price list to help them understand the costs of what is being offered. Whatever you offer, offer them something you already know they’ll say yes to, because they just told you they need it.

ACCOMMODATE

Whether trying to establish a meeting, or simply find time to discuss offerings via the phone, it is important to accommodate the needs of the prospect. Always meet them more than half way. Allow them to designate a preferred time to meet or speak. Accommodation is like gift giving. People feel the need to reciprocate when they are given a gift, and they may very well reciprocate by saying yes to your sales pitch.

COMMIT

Commitment is a reflection of integrity, and integrity is the cornerstone of trust. Former publisher of SUCCESS magazine, Darren Hardy once said that commitment is doing the thing you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you. But just as important as committing to doing the things we say we will, is not committing to do the things that we might not be able to do. It takes humility to know one’s limitations, and to demonstrate humility is to demonstrate integrity. In short, never over-promise, and always keep your promises.

CHECK IN

Checking in is simply a friendlier way to execute the process of “following up”. A follow up schedule could extend as far out as 12 months. In this time, it is important to utilize the information gathered in previous talks. With a list of their needs, problems and concerns on hand, ask them how they are doing in each area. Even after the sale, it is important to offer help and support. If done right, the trust built from being actively invested in their success will lead to improved closing rates as well as ongoing referrals.

If you aren’t doing all of these things yet, that’s okay. If building trust is your goal, you are already on your way to being a better salesperson.
